Fuente de Piedra lagoon
Fuente de Piedra lagoon was declared a Special Protection area for birds in 1988.
It is the largest lagoon in Andalusia with 1400 hectares.
In the lagoon you can observe the life and reproduction of many birds, especially the pink flamingo.
Bathing is not allowed. A place to walk and that you can bathe is the Chillar River in Nerja. The Fuente de Piedra lagoon is an ideal place to walk and take photos.
The lagoon is supplied by groundwater and rainfall.
The salt and gypsum deposited in its basin give salinity to the water and allow the development of halophilic vegetation.
This lagoon is an important place for the nesting and migratory passage of many birds.
Fuente de Piedra Lagoon has the largest colony of flamingos in the Iberian Peninsula and the second most important in Europe.
