Roman Theater of Malaga

The construction of the Roman Theater occurred in the 1st century b.C.
It was used during 4 centuries and then remained hidden until the year 1951.
The Theater can be visited today and you can know the history in the interpretation center next to the theater.
Augustus was the one who promoted the construction of the Roman Theater in the time of Roman Hispania.
The construction took place in 1st century b.C. and was used until the 3rd century.
The theater remained hidden for several centuries until it was discovered in 1951.
In the place where the Theater is located was the house of culture. It was while the gardens were being realized when it was seen that there were ruins underneath.
In 1988 the decision was published to demolish the House of Culture in order to complete the necessary archaeological excavations and rehabilitation works of the ruins.
The demolition began in 1995.
The excavations revealed the structure of the theater below.
The Theater was used as a quarry during the construction of the Alcazaba.
The Roman Theater recovered its use as scenic space in 2011.
