Bullring of Mijas

The Bullring was built in 1900 on a rock. For a time it was closed but it was reopened in 1977.
This bullring, together with the Ronda Bullring, is one of the most important bullrings in Spain.
This Bullring is special because of its oval shape. There are very few Squares in Spain with this form.
Since the inauguration of the Bullring, it was celebrated the "Steers closures".
These closures began because the steers came from the Vega de Málaga and were taken to the bullring by roads.
On the way, they stopped in a rest area for several hours. Later, when the streets of the town were calm, they took the steers through the center of town until they reached the Plaza.
Several people began to run in front of the bulls and thus began the closure tradition.
Nowadays, these closures are not being celebrated.
