Sierra Nevada is part of the Penibaetic System.
Mulhacén is the highest mountain in this mountain range, it is 3482 meters above sea level.
Sierra Nevada has an astronomical observatory composed of a place with a radio telescope and a complex with several optical telescopes.
It also has a ski resort. It is the highest ski resort in Spain and also the southernmost in Europe.
In 2012 it was chosen as the Host City for the FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboarding World Championships 2017.
There are many possibilities of leisure in Sierra Nevada including skiing, cross-country skiing and many different hiking trails.
