The Alhambra in Granada is located at one of the highest point.
In the construction of the Alhambra was sought a strategic location to serve as a military defense.
From the year 1238, it became the residence of the first monarch of the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada.
The Nasrids had access to the enclosure through different gates:
- La puerta de las Albercas.
- La puerta de la Explanada.
- La puerta del Arrabal.
- La puerta de las Armas.
In the Christian era it was accessed through the following gates:
- La puerta de las Granadas.
- La puerta del Vino.
- La puerta de Levante.
Currently the access to the Alhambra is through the external road network.
